Public Address: WOTCHA!
In the end, you’re trying to find peace of mind. That’s the result of being satisfied with your life. And it doesn’t matter how much money, or property, or whatever you’ve got. Unless you’re happy in your heart, then that’s it. And unfortunately, you can never gain perfect happiness unless you’ve got a state of consciousness that enables that. George Harrison Musician

MORRISSEY SOLO
Tuesday Mar 05, 2024
Tuesday Mar 05, 2024
Public Address: MORRISSEY SOLO
On Side 2 of this edition of Public Address - Morrissey Solo – a reflection on the work he’s created since leaving a certain previous band. There’s been an unsettling emergence of voices rising from the rotting grave of political correctness in recent times, in a feeble attempt to somehow make Morrissey’s solo music into nothing more than a shadow of The Smiths. In reality to many, Morrissey was the beating heart of the much-loved 80s quartet and unlike his bandmates, he became so much more. The truth is, without Morrissey, The Smiths would not have become the band so clearly and publicly adored.

BACK TO THE NINETEEN SEVENTIES

Sunday Mar 03, 2024
Public Address: BACK TO THE 1970s
The 1970s was an era of musical brilliance, with iconic bands taking centre stage. From the electric energy of punk to the dance floor magnetism of disco, this decade had it all. Who can forget the rise of legendary bands like The Buzzcocks, The Ramones, The Clash and Led Zeppelin? And let's not overlook the glam rock revolution led by David Bowie, who dazzled with flamboyant personas and timeless music
The 70’s gave us more than just rock and roll... it also gave us musical legends like Abba, who brought catchy and soulful melodies that are still appreciated today. Music became a defining aspect of British culture, transcending borders, and uniting people from all walks of life.
It’s quite a task to cram in tracks covering the decade’s incredible range of Rock, Pop, Punk, Indie, Disco and Glam all into two hours! Also in the programme our occasional guest, the quiz inquisitor himself, Andrew McKinnon, will be here with a special 1970s music quiz.

NEOTERIC MUSIC

Wednesday Feb 28, 2024
Public Address: NEOTERIC MUSIC
Neoteric or avant garde music can be many things – it may be characterised by chord progressions that are unusual for contemporary music; elements that don't seem to follow the 'rules' or confines of typical compositions, and even those that sound discordant. Music that’s considered to be at the forefront of innovation in its field, implying a critique of existing aesthetic conventions, rejection of the status quo in favour of unique or original elements, and the idea of deliberately challenging or alienating audiences. In this edition of Public Address you'll hear two hours of techniques embracing the use of alternative artistic methods and styles in melody and structure.

Public Address: COVERS
Covers – a Public Address other versions special. The basic recipe with many covers is to slow down the tempo, add a string section, and sing everything in a breathy voice, while many others radically strip down the entire structure. You might possibly recognise the music, but can you determine whose cover versions these are?

Thursday Feb 01, 2024
Public Address: THE DELIGHTS OF MODERN MUSIC
In modern music history, as a term referencing music, modernism was first used by critics to describe forms of musical expression adhering to the radical changes happening at the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century. Modernism describes relatively few unifying musical traits, the sounds of modernism range from the wistful and bucolic, to the bizarre and jarring, to the soulful and smouldering, infectious rhythms attracting the need to dance, relax, make love, express emotions and inspire. Such as on this two-hour eclectic selection of extraordinarily outstanding music!

Public Address: IN BITS - TEAR JERKERS
Make sure the tissue box is close by as life can get a little sad from time to time. Sometimes the only antidote is a tub of ice cream, some incredibly sad songs and a really good cry. The best sad songs don’t just whine and gesture at bad feelings - they wallow in the depths with you. Misery loves company, and some tracks know how to capitalise on our sorrow - and there are tearjerkers here for everyone.

Public Address: THE PUBLIC ADDRESS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
When a new day begins, smile gratefully.
When there is darkness, be the first to shine a light.
When there is injustice, be the first to condemn it.
When something seems difficult, do it anyway.
When life seems to beat you down, fight back.
When there seems to be no hope, find some.
When you’re feeling tired, keep going.
When times are tough, be tougher.
When love hurts you, love again.
When someone is in pain - help them to heal.
When another is lost, help them to find the way.
When a friend falls, be the first to extend a hand.
When you cross paths with another, make them smile.
When you feel great, help someone else to feel great too.
When the day has ended, feel as though you’ve done your best.
Be the best you can – and enjoy the programme.
Merry Christmas!
